btw. is it possible to load balance the download capacity of the dswp server by hosting maps?

My idea was, i've got webspace without traffic limit and high-bandwidth, guess some others too.
Is it possible to cycle the download requests and spread them over different locations?
So person 1 connects and auto-downloads from location 1, next person who connects and auto-downloads map, location 2 is used, and so on, to spread the loading over different map-loading locations?

bump.

maybe, noone knows right now....
settling this is again a problem caused due to the absence of mr. and mrs. wurst.
that get special harrassment treatment through deutsche telekom ag.

As far as i know you can set for every map in the mapcycle one single download location. So train_gamma can be loaded from SKracht's websapce, and sliema from Samtron's websapce and so on... This would not work as load balancer, but it distributes the traffic and prevents dswp server from bandwith problems, so that massive downloading does not disturb the gameserver (I think SvaRoX mentioned this problem sometimes).

I have also fast university websapce, but I don't want to risk any account disabling. But I can offer my normal webspace, enough space for a map and ~ 24 GB traffic per month (I don't know if this is enough for one map in one month). But SKracht can host every map, when he has no limitations ... :)

made the topic global, so mr wurst will read it asap.

Nice idea Samtron and SKracht about map download balancing, in fact we already discussed about that to prevent lags on custom maps. Courgette gave us a script to balance map DL between different sources, wurst thought to another solution IIRC. I hope we discuss about that when he returns to try a lot of new maps :)

I think alternative maps is a good idea. For a change. I agree that put up a link on the server to download maps. An announcement about d same at least a week ago will do. I think people will love it... :D

I really like ut4_orbital and ut4-dust2 at least in bomb mode.

Have not played ut4_twins so far.

its not only possible its a simple and no-install solution existing.
its called dns, the most used and least known system of the internet
:)
http://www.elektronik-kompendium.de/sit ... 906201.htm

hm just give me the IP of the webserver.
there must be a virtual host "maps.dswp.de" with a subdir /q3ut4

atm download url is set to "dswp.de"
that must be changed no server.
aditionally we must think about a way to sync files.
when u say webserver, i think ftp mirroring would be recommended...

So, I'll set up a directory and bind a subdomain to it, so you can point an DNS entry on it.
In that Dir must be another Dir named "/q3ut4"?

I can set up an ftp account for that Dir.

Anything else to do? Is it that simple?
