Not sure if it has been mentioned before (probably has), but we should modify the bot, so it disables TK once he_tennis is loaded :P
Deadnades are a nuisance and get a whole number of people kicked from the server.

Most people here are probably unaware that I’ve been mapping for the past half a year or so. Nothing to show yet though, the map that’s closest to finished still needs a lot of textures.

Anyhow.

Today on an impulse I decompiled ut4_he_tennis_v0.1 and rebuilt it — new textures, proper lighting, surfacesounds, stuff like that. I replaced all the textures to future proof the map… which is of course a somewhat futile attempt considering it heavily depends on a feature (respawning nades) that may disappear at any moment. You probably notice the more complex walls, these were necessary to break up lightmaps (for better resolution — if you have a single wide slab of a wall, the limited-size lightmap will simply be stretched to cover it, resulting in big beefy pixels). Everything is nicely clipped, no nasty surprises with nades or players snagging. The lights on the walls are nonsolid.

There are a few more spawns and some more nades (next to the walls). I ripped out CTF and bomb since, really, does anyone think these modes would even have a joke value on this map? Tried to make bots move around a bit with item_botroam entities, but they still remain next to the back wall, running back and forth. Oh well.

A known issue (from the readme file):

(4.2.015) When you quit the game after playing with bots, you may see an
error message:
Server Shutdown (Server fatal crashed: Z_Free: memory block wrote past end)
This does not affect the actual gameplay though and in fact B2 works better
with bots than v0.1 which simply crashes during warmup. Probably something
related to all those nades laying around. (Both maps crash in 4.0 the very
instant you add bots.)

The PK3 contains the MAP file, have a look if interested.

Five years have passed since my first try at rebuilding HE Tennis in 2013 (which I messed up somewhat). B3 looks rather a lot better than previous versions and, because I actually know what I’m doing these days, flying grenades are now visible against the ceiling:-> Other than the visuals not a whole lot has changed; you throw nades over the “tennis net” and try not to get blown up yourself. FFA/LMS/TDM/TS/FT/CTF/BOMB are supported, see the PK3 readme for details.
