OK, Ubuntu's repo doesn't really have OSS :( , only wrapper for OSS=>ALSA, so I downloaded .deb from OSS's site. It seems to work with OSS now: exaile + UrT have sound, also exaile + mplayer have both sound (via OSS all). I also reinstalled SDL to have sound via OSS instead of PulesAudio. I had sound in UrT while having mumble in the background.

It even worked after a kernel update.

I used PulseAudio because it works OOB and is not choppy (unlike ALSA sometimes), at least if there's no more than one application using sound at a time.

Ok so you definitely stop using Pulseaudio at the end.
Yes Alsa produces choppy sound sometimes, unless you find the right period_size/buffer_size parameters which work fine with your soundcard...
I did not specifically stop using PulseAudio generally, just for SDL, mplayer and exaile (that's "my" music player) :D .

Btw, I never managed to find out where I set buffer size in ALSA, but it doesn't really matter much anymore.

so you are running OSS4 now? Tell me if all works fine guess the mumble people would be interested as well (the other day someone claimed that mumble did lack OSS4 support at all).
Everything worked just fine in the audio wizard, but there was noone online before. And now mumble is empty also. Likely there will be someone in the evening so I'll try it out. Aimme is away so I can't ask him to test.

For my sound, usually my main sound is alsa, but in mumble i have pulseaudio. Everything works fine, and i use pulseaudio because with alsa i can't speak...

Should i try oss4?

I remember my unreal tournament 2004 has sound only if i run it with "aoss ut2004"

I tell you, everything works fine with ALSA... after having spent *some* "hours" to configure it ;)

I spent .... alsaconfig and it worked *g*
OSS4 ... isn't supported by a lot of applications yet, I wouldn't recommend it (though I didn't try it myself)

It's like having an ATI or NVIDIA GC, you can be lucky or fucked :)

Most stuff works fine for me. And in the end, is you're not using your soundcard by any other application, you can use anything. I still have ALSA, Pulseaudio, Esound, etc. installed. OSS4 is just another one. They all work. I'll be testing sometime soon with aimme if OSS4 works good with mumble+UrT (and maybe, just for test, I try it with +mplayer+exaile too).

Just tested with aimme, could play music in exaile, play an AMV with mplayer and chat in mumble at the same time, all had sound, all using OSS4.

And I also retuned my settings so I'll sound much better now... I acctually lost a part of my microphone so it was veeeery loud, thus someone probably heard some strange noise when I once laughed ingame in mumble recently in uptown.

somehow this error stopped happening to me
also, like before, most maps don't load twice but only once, like they should

Error with OSS4? :D

I still sometimes get double loads and reliable, but rarer now that I've increased the bandwidth limit to max.
