@Pirat: Don't you get blinded by all that white light from the screen?

Google, eBay, ten gazillion other websites, Mumble ... *thinking*

No. :-)

Let's see ...

Code:
$ brightness -l
40
$

Nah, with 40 per cent brightness, everything looks non-eye-burning
on my Samsung 2233RZ 120 Hz TFT.

I do use two white-on-black xterms (and a lot of black-on-white xterms),
though.

And better potentially blinded than overstraining your eye due to
next to non-existent contrast. Light gray on dark gray, WTF?

As far as my eyes are concerned this forum has plenty of contrast, except for some people's names (dark blue on dark grey is a bit difficult to read).

0x99 - 0x20 = 0x79 (121) (original style)
0xee - 0x00 = 0xee (238) (my style)

So my style has a contrast about twice as high
as the original dswp style.

And although the original style may be considered
readable enough for some people, my eyes/brain don't
like it for some reason. Maybe due to the lower contrast,
I don't know ...

Interesting, I usually find high contrast to cause eye strain (i.e. reading a book under direct sunlight is impossible for me).

Natirips, my friend, high enough contrast != too high contrast.
