Thx Steve, I knew you would make some reference post :p I thought you already explain the lagometer a bit, but I didn't find the post (do we need a wiki ? =).
I remember having used negative timenudge in Q3, I know you can't set it <0 in UrT but I was wondering if you could theoretically have the same behavior : choppy movements, but "closer" to the server (game is less extrapolated so you have better feeling, especially with rail). Since sv_snaps is 20, I guess negative timenudge would be no use...

I think 3 seperate votes is a bit much work, perhaps it's easier to pre-select maps based on previous popularity if there are a few missing

You mean like if there's not enough maps, automatically those from the top of the previous(old) list are added at the bottom of the new one? Sounds like a good idea.

yeah, that's indeed what I meant :)

This is a bit late, but I couldn't post it in the morning, couldn't reach the server.

I don't see much difference between playing on a server with 5-6 people and 40+ people. Same framerate, same ping. I keep my urt's settings for network at minimum datarate.

Apropos our (mine and Aimme's) connection:
Actually, according to router, it's 4704 kbps downstream and 320 kbps upstream. According to my tests it's a little above 400KB/s dl (tested by downloading stuff) and cca. 24KB/s ul (tested with bunch of torrents w/o upload limiter, using various ports, always the same results, except much lower and peaky with default port and idiot port (i.e. 80)). I usually keep my torrents at 5KB/s both dl and ul and connections limited to 20. When he's playing (and/or when I'm playing), I switch them off, so it's not an issue. There is one other person in the house who could hypothetically be using torrents, but he isn't. He doesn't even have a client app installed. But our connection to a server somewhere in Germany should be fine because most packets from Croatia go through Germany first (thanks to t-comm's practical monopoly).

haha sva, the wiki idea was mentioned by wurst some time ago. for some things it would indeed make sense. i admit i do not look forward to the work to move all the information over into the new db format, if it was to happen.

i think you got something wrong...
snaps 20 = client-side variable, that limits your client to receive 20 snapshots per second maximum, no matter what you set the sv_fps of your server to. (if it was locked that way, a recompiled server .exe would do just fine and not be limiting...)

any way, you get 20 snapshots per second as maximum, this leading to a fixed intervall of 1sec/20snaps=50ms. 50ms is kinda built in lag, that is not you seeing any "feel-able" lag.

this post is not finished, i got to go googling for the cpma stuff that explained all this at its best. so i can make a post that takes all into account and answer as much possible questions as possible.

Hmmm okies, any idea what may cause this: I freeze, big connection problem text in the middle of the screen but EVERYONE ELSE on my screen move normally (mainly shooting me  ), didn't get a screenshot in time but I think there was pretty damn huge green spikes at the bottom of my netgraph. This hasn't happened to me until today :|

So you could presume that the green spikes are just ping but... I've never lagged like this due high ping :o Though the fact that everyone else could move, might suggest that the problem is on my connection / computer.

Any ideas?

If everyone else moves it's likely upload problem. Did you have some torrents (or any other upload) happening by mistake in the background or on another machine that could be sharing the connection? If you have a DSL router with WLAN check your security.

Are you using M$ Windows => have some serious spyware/adware/trojan/whatever?

I know that I get less upload and download whenever there's a winbox running behind the same router, even if it's not doing anything, even though no anti-virus-and-whatever-stuff-windows-users-have-to-run doesn't detect anything abnormal.[/*nix advertisement]

No torrents, no WLAN and no other computers sharing connection. Using freshly installed Windows 7 & Norton 09 with latest updates. Norton or spybot don't find any problems.

Did you install all the network drivers? XD :D

Code:
$ become serious

Maybe firewall issue?

Eh, I'm still not serious...

Code:
$sudo become serious
[sudo] password for natirips:
>>You became serious.
$

If it was working fine before I'm pretty much out of ideas. Maybe ISP had some problems at the moment?

to be sure its the network, make a traceroute, ping all hosts on the route.

if u use win:
-install hlsw
-enter the server in hlsw
-do a right klick --> traceroute:

im btw sry, hlsw still dont support connecting to an urt serwer...
