Srsly, what kind of retarded distro are you using? It ran for me out-of-the-box both on my laptop before and now on my desktop.

I can even tell apart my mapping UrT installation and my playing UrT installation.

it means when I run the executable, it opens (i can see it running in the processes list), but nothing else happens; I just keep seeing the desktop :/

try to run the 32bit version, maybe with linux32 progi.
i had one situation where it helped.
