The Pirate Party actually managed to get 9% in the Berlin state elections, which is about 15 seats. That is great news! Democracy works and even better is the side effect. Guido Westerwelle, top politician of the german FDP, said a few years ago that every vote for the Pirate Party would be going down the drain, as they would not pass the 5% mark (which is the minimum amount of votes a party needs to enter the Berlin state parliament). Yesterday the Pirate Party got 9% - whereas the FDP got 1.8% and thus is not allowed to enter the parliament Karma is a bitch, a rather patient one on top of that.

Let's hope they will actually make a difference!

Well now a small party (I think in German politics one can still call then new?) has the chance to proof that they are not just a bunch of naggers but capable of being better then the other parties.

Keep us updated once they do something big! (Not really following what happens in Germany here)

And I was there, live at the polling booth, and was able to make the cross for the PIRATEN. Not only the parliament for whole Berlin was elected, there was also the election for every city district. The pirate party won all in all more seats than they have candidates (nobody expected these results!), so some seats will remain empty in the next years... I'm very excited and curious, if and how things will change for the pirate party and politics in Berlin in general.

By the way: For all the Germans, who are interested in petitions and don't like the "Vorratsdatenspeicherung" (Telecommunications data retention) - Go and sign this if you haven't done it already.

liberal parties turned out to be "economic liberal", after they established.
its freedom. but its the freedom for the richest 0,01% to fist.
now its next try, i would be really happy if there would be a REAL liberal element coming up in our politics.
freedom matters, it devides present from ancient politics. if we are lucky.
