Well I know from my I phone that there are some freaky autocorrections but in German they are not that funny.

Disclaimer: I’ve never seen, much less used, this abomination of a phone, but being a subscriber to a consumer tech magazine whose editor-in-chief is an incorrigible Apple fan, I’ve read quite a bit about it. (To his credit, he's rather explicit about the shortcomings of any of its products.)

And Steve created the autocorrect, and saw that it was good. The people of Mac were very vexed and cried out to iHeavens, but nay, never shall Steve change his mind, unless a really shitty business year forces him to.

In short: yes. Its autocorrect works, well, automatically. You can change the “corrected” text, but only after the fact. And in the best Apple spirit, before 2010 or something like this the user could only reset the custom dictionary his phone builds over time; disabling the autocorrect was only possible on jailbroken phones. (It’s telling that whenever you google for anything iPhone-related, most of the top results talk about jailbreaking.)
